Greetings fellow CanSouth-Charlotte Members!
Since our first "Open House" in September 2006 (with about 16 folks in attendance), our membership is now over 100 and that's not including the kids! The "Canada Day Picnic" certainly drew many of you "out of the woodwork" and we have to thank Connect2Canada for promoting our party on their webpage. Also our thanks to the Raleigh CanSouth who got us started, particularly Sean Mitton who has offered advice and guidance.
The website is set up to showcase past events so if you have photographs that you would like published, please forward them to me. We will also highlight upcoming events and we will send the occasional email to suggest you check out the website for updates. As CanSouth-Charlotte is a purely voluntary organization, we urge you to assist us in organizing and suggesting events that we may wish to participate in.
Some of these events may include:
- Seeing some Carolina Hurricanes games at the RBC Center in Raleigh.Depending on the numbers, it might be feasible to charter a bus for this event. If we can find a weekend game, early in the season, we could possibly tailgate. Many a party has been held in the Hurricanes/NC State parking lot! Obviously, the opposing team would be the Leafs, Canadiens, Oilers, Canucks or Flames. The CanSouth group in Raleigh can help us get the group tickets as they have an account with the Hurricanes.
- The group has attended several Charlotte Checker hockey games and one of our own CanSouth members sang the Canadian National Anthem and two lucky Canadians got to ride the Zamboni!
- For cultural events, if a Canadian artist, symphonic, operatic or popular group performs or a novelist or poet comes to Charlotte, it would be fun to organize an evening out. Many of us were fortunate enough to see the Barenaked Ladies on their visit to Charlotte.
- Special holiday events such as Canada Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, or a Christmas get together. As the group gets larger and we find that we have many children, we could organize a Christmas Party for the kids. Someone may have a favorite bar, restaurant, or pub and wish to organize an evening out for the adults or the ladies may wish to meet for lunch some time.
If anyone is interested in organizing any of these events or has another suggestion, please let me know!
