| Save the date! We are bringing Canada to Charlotte on Saturday, September 29th, from 6:30 until midnight at The Westin Hotel. Canada, the vast and diverse True North provides the inspiration for the 19th annual International House Benefit Gala. The 2007 Gala, "Autumn Splendour: The Colours and Flavours of Canada", will celebrate Canada's rich traditions in the arts, music and culture. This international dining and entertainment experience is one of Charlotte's most eagerly anticipated events, attracting numerous Canadian diplomats and American dignitaries. The guests will be greeted by The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and invited to enjoy a cocktail reception, followed by a dinner of unique flavors representing the diversity of contemporary Canadian cuisine. Guests will also enjoy a silent and live auction conducted by Mr. Ernest Perry, of Perry's at SouthPark. The auction will feature premier items such as two roundtrip business-class Lufthansa German Airlines tickets to any European destination, a Laborite pendant with diamonds exclusively designed by Donald Haack Diamonds, a Canadian fur from Montaldo's, special travel packages, as well as other unique and exciting items. The celebration will continue with Canadian entertainment, music and dancing until midnight. The table and floral arrangements will be designed by Carolyn Shepard Design Group. "Autumn Splendour: The Colours and Flavours of Canada" benefit fundraiser, is an all-volunteer event produced by the Gala Committee and International House. All proceeds from the gala support the programs and services of International House. - Canada Day Picnic
Many thanks to the 53 fellow Canadians and friends who attended the picnic! The weather was somewhat warm, but we hope that the squirt guns helped cool you off and that you had lots to eat, drink and that you just had fun! Check out the write-up in the Charlotte Observer Union County section! Hopefully next year we can draw an even bigger crowd!
[photos coming soon!] - Ottawa Senators/Anaheim Ducks Hockey Game on the Big Screen
We watched one of the Stanley Cup series final games, and drowned our sorrows in some chili and beer. However, some of us were rooting for the southern team…sometimes you just can’t root for a Canadian team that beats you during the regular season. - Barenaked Ladies Concert in Charlotte
It was a terrific concert at a small venue and there were lots of Canadians in attendance…just difficult to corner them and get their email addresses! - Charlotte Checkers Game
Several of us took advantage of discounted tickets to watch the Charlotte Checkers hockey team at the new Bobcats arena. A small tailgate before the game got us pumped and the after-game skate with the players was particularly popular. [photos coming soon!] - Christmas Get Together at the Leblancs
Jennifer and Jim Leblanc graciously opened up their home to us for hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Delicious food and another opportunity to meet some new Canadians in the area. - First Open House - September 2006
With about 16 folks in attendance, it was a great time to meet fellow Canadians and ponder what we would like to do as a group.
